Blinkx.tv, FeedDemon to Support Podcasts & Video Blogs

April 18th, 2006 by blogoso in Uncategorized · No Comments

Two new products are tying in podcasts and video blog support: Blinkx.tv, a search engine optimized for audio and video content on the web, today expands its range with Podcast and video blog channels. Blinkx.tv doesn’t rely on transcripts supplied by content producers – instead, it indexes the actual content using voice recognition techniques. This makes the only engine that can locate content from sources that don’t provide a transcript, like small-scale grass-roots podcasts and video blogs. In addition to spidering the Internet and indexing the content it finds, Blinkx.tv will allow users to submit their content directly to the engine.
NewsGator has enhanced its FeedDemon product with a new module called FeedStation, which automatically downloads selected audio and video feeds to your media player. FeedStation can subsribe to Podcast and video blog content and receive updated content as available, saving it for playback with iTunes or Windows Media Player. It is presently available in NewsGator Online as well as in FeedDemon, and will soon be added to NewsGator Outlook Edition. Users can even select content on the web from any browser and have it automatically added to their playback device at home.

Who let the blogs out? Blogging has become one of the hottest web trends. How can it help your business? – Smarts –

April 18th, 2006 by blogoso in Uncategorized · 905 Comments

BLOGGING. KIDS ARE DOing it. Your neighbor is doing it. Academicians are doing it. And now businesses are doing it, too. If you take “Web” and “log,” and put them together, you get a blog.

At its most basic, a blog is a frequently updated, timed and dated online journal with a good dose of links involved. That may not sound like much to get excited about, but it has gone beyond fad to become a full-fledged Internet phenomenon.

Blogging expert Peter Scott is a consultant to Internet service company Northern Lights Internet Solutions. His Weblogs Compendium (www.lights.com/weblogs) is a premium resource for entrepreneurs seeking an introduction to all things blog. “For a small business, the beauty of using a Web log is that you can promote your business and you can also get other people to work with you on your business,” says Scott.

The elements of interactivity, community and collaboration will be key as growing businesses adopt blogs for customer relations, advertising, promotion and even internal communications. One well-known business example is software company Macro-media’s use of blogging to keep customers updated on what’s happening with its products.

It’s hard to narrow down good uses for business blogging because the possibilities are enormous and the whole area is relatively new, but it doesn’t stop with Macromedia. Scott sees blogs becoming a mainstream feature of business Web sites. “There are new services coming out that can go beyond just a blog and turn into complete information management systems,” he says. With a blog, you can answer questions, post business updates, link to similar sites and receive commentary from users. A collaborative company blog could give your employees one place to go to keep up on business happenings, memos and announcements. Get a feel for the community and tools available by visiting popular software provider Blogger (blogger.com).

LONDON (AP) – Liverpool won its seventh straight game in the English Premier League, beating Blackburn 1-0 Sunday on Robbie Fowler’s fourth goal in five games.

Fowler scored in the 29th minute when Fernando Morientes kept the ball in play and passed to Fowler, who beat former U.S. goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
Blackburn complained that the goal should have been disallowed because Djibril Cisse was offside. The referee ruled Cisse was not interfering with play, however.

Friedel kept Blackburn from falling further behind when he pushed Cisse’s shot over the bar in first-half injury time.

Liverpool is in third place in the league with 73 points, three behind second-place Manchester United, which has played a game less. Blackburn is sixth with 54 points, seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham and three points behind Arsenal.

Chelsea leads the league with 85 points and can win its second straight title on Monday against visiting Everton.

Milan Baros scored twice to give Aston Villa a 3-1 win over local rival Birmingham.

Baros scored in the 10th and 78th minutes, and Gary Cahill added a goal in between. Birmingham made it 1-1 when Chris Sutton scored in the 25th.
